Hockey is back!
Gets Pucks Deep has compiled a list of the Top NHL Player Fantasy Rankings for the upcoming 2024-25 Season. The rankings are based off of a standard player format league, so points aren’t the only thing that matter. Categories are goals, assists, PP points, shots on goal, hits and blocks.
This post contains the first 100 players and the next post contains players 101 to 200. For a master list of the top 250 fantasy NHL players, click here.
The list includes positional rankings, a brief outlook description, statistical projections, last years stats and icons. The icons are something new. If in a pinch on draft day and you’re looking for a real quick synopsis in what a player can help bring to your team. The icons will help!

BREAKOUT POTENTIAL—The numbers are compared to the players’ numbers a year ago. The players chosen typically have a +20% increase in output from a year ago.
GOAL SCORER – Out of a list of the top 250 NHL Fantasy Players, the individuals granted this icon are in the top 15th percentile of goals scored this season.
ASSIST MACHINE – Out of a list of the top 250 NHL Fantasy Players, the individuals granted this icon are in the top 15th percentile of assists season.
SHOOTER – Out of a list of the top 250 NHL Fantasy Players, the individuals granted this icon are in the top 15th percentile for shots on goal this season.
PP SPECIALIST – Out of a list of the top 250 NHL Fantasy Players, the individuals granted this icon are in the top 15th percentile for PP points this season.
HITS – Out of a list of the top 250 NHL Fantasy Players, the individuals granted this icon are in the top 15th percentile for hits this season.
SHOT BLOCKER – Out of a list of the top 250 NHL Fantasy Players, the individuals granted this icon are in the top 15th percentile for hits this season.
INJURY POTENTIAL – Players who I suspect will deal with injury troubles in the coming year. Players chosen have had a history of being placed on LTIR. They have typically missed about 35 games total in the past two years.
DROPOFF POTENTIAL – I suspect players will experience a significant decrease in production from the prior year. This is most likely due to age, high shooting percentage, or a drop in usage from the year prior. Compared to the preceding year, production dips by no less than 15%.

Connor McDavid can also contribute in hits, which is surprising because he always has the puck. He’s the best fantasy option available this year, so if you have the number #1 overall pick in your fantasy draft and you’re not in a keeper’s league, you pick McDavid.

Auston Matthews is 26 years old and is the best goal scorer in the NHL today. Expect a similar outcome this year. The Leafs are looking to compete again this year, and Matthews, the newfound captain, is leading the charge. He scored 69 goals last year, which is unsustainable. I expect a 59-goal and 103-point campaign for Matthews this season.
Surprisingly, Matthews accumulates a lot of hits and blocks compared to other NHL superstars, so he is one of the best fantasy options available.

The reigning NHL’s leading scorer is a good bet to take home the trophy next year, even at 31 years old. He’s had 4+ 100-point seasons in the NHL, and I’m expecting this one to be his fifth.
The Tampa Bay Lightning will again look to be a Stanley Cup contender this year, so there’s no reason to believe that Nikita Kucherov won’t be equally as effective He’s an offensive machine and will be one again this year.

The reigning Hart Trophy winner won’t repeat his 140-point campaign. Last year, he did something that he has yet to be able to do since the 2019-20 season: the ability to play an entire season. I’m basing his numbers this year on him only playing 70 games. I’m still expecting a 108-point season from him, so a decline, yes, but do I still expect great things from arguably the game’s greatest player – yes!
There aren’t many players who will be able to score more points than Mackinnon this year, and I don’t think many players will shoot the puck more than him, so if you’re looking for offence this year, look no further.

He had 89 points in 82 games last year, and at the end of the season, it was revealed that Elias Pettersson was dealing with an injury for a better part of the regular and postseason. So, 89 points in a full regular season and he’s partially injured throughout it. That is ridiculous output for any player, let alone if they’re hurt. If he can stay healthy, I expect Elias Pettersson to eclipse the 100-point plateau. He’s still only 25 years old, so he’s got a lot of hockey left in him.

Don’t expect drastic changes from J.T. this year; he will produce and be above a point-per-game pace. I expect a 90-point season from him. He is still this team’s #1 centreman and best all-around player, even if he is 31 years old.

Rasmus Dahlin is a bona-fide #1 NHL defenseman and a #1 NHL fantasy defender. If I’m being cautious, I suspect Dahlin will put up 65 points in an entire NHL season, but if luck is on his side and Buffalo has a rebound season offensively, he is a point-per-game defender. Last year, he exploded with career-best numbers in hits and blocks. There is room for improvement at only 24 years of age, so if you’re considering choosing the top fantasy defenders in the league today, Dahlin should be one of the top defenders on any list.

He’s the undisputed best player on this very good Dallas Stars team, which is a mix of excellent young players such as Wyatt Johnston and Thomas Harley and savvy veterans like Jamie Been and Tyler Seguin. Leading the charge is Jason Robertson. You can’t go wrong with this guy fantasy-wise this year.

For the past three years, William Nylander has had career years, starting at 80 points, going to 87 points, and finally reaching 98 points. Eventually, this trend has to stop, and I think this is the year. However, my expectations for this year are 94 points, so there will be a very slight dip.
With the Toronto Maple Leafs maintaining their offensive strength over the past few years, and Nylander likely to play alongside dependable centremen like Matthews or Tavares, it’s reasonable to expect a similar offensive output from Nylander this year.

Last year, he had a career-high 148 block season, and while I’m not expecting that high of a number this year, he will have a solid year in this category then and will have an all-around great season again. The only thing stopping this from happening is an injury.

If you’ve been betting low on Moritz Seider until now, there is a better year to do so.

He’s heading into a contract year this year, so I’m expecting a career year for him, a 98-point season.

Arguably the best player in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Filip Forsberg, had a career year last year with 48 goals and 94 points. This year, I’m predicting a slight drop: 38 goals and 78 points in 7 fewer games played. He’s at the top of his game right now, and with the additions of Stammer and company, this team could propel him to new heights. Sadly, it won’t be new heights for him, though. The 94 points in 82 games were a bit of an outlier, but scoring 78 points in 75 games is entirely reasonable for Filip Forsberg.

This is a Stanley Cup-contending team, and Panarin is their primary offensive weapon, so he will be given every resource to repeat what he just did. So, expect less, just not too much less.

Steven Stamkos has scored over a point per game in the last three years, yet he is 34. He wasn’t their primary offensive weapon with the Tampa Bay Lightning, but with the Nashville Predators, he might be, so Stammer has the opportunity to score.

The only real weak spot for the Golden Knights this year is their need for offence. Tomas Hertl was brought in at the trade deadline this year and is a much-needed asset. With the departure of Jonathan Marchessault, Tomas Hertl will need to take over and assume his spot as a goal scorer on this team. He had injury troubles last year, so if he can stay clear of that, I expect a 26-goal, 60-point campaign, which is a standard year for the 30-year-old forward.

A premier defenseman in the NHL today, he only played 20 games last year due to injury but posted 16 points in them. In his absence, the young Luke Hughes stepped up and thrived in his absence. Assuming Dougie Hamilton is fully healthy at the start of this year, I wonder if Luke Hughes will slide into a secondary role or take some of his PP1 duties, so I’m expecting a decrease in production from the now 31-year-old. However, the guy will still score 50 points this year and produce shots on goal at an elite pace from the backend.
