Hockey is back!
Gets Pucks Deep has compiled a list of the Top NHL Player Fantasy Rankings for the upcoming 2024-25 Season. The rankings are based off of a standard player format league, so points aren’t the only thing that matter. Categories are goals, assists, PP points, shots on goal, hits and blocks.
This post contains players 101 to 200 and the next post contains players 1 to 100. For a master list of the top 250 fantasy NHL players, click here.
The list includes positional rankings, a brief outlook description, statistical projections, last years stats and icons. The icons are something new. If in a pinch on draft day and you’re looking for a real quick synopsis in what a player can help bring to your team. The icons will help!

title and description
BREAKOUT POTENTIAL—The numbers are compared to the players’ numbers a year ago. The players chosen typically have a +20% increase in output from a year ago.
GOAL SCORER – Out of a list of the top 250 NHL Fantasy Players, the individuals granted this icon are in the top 15th percentile of goals scored this season.
ASSIST MACHINE – Out of a list of the top 250 NHL Fantasy Players, the individuals granted this icon are in the top 15th percentile of assists season.
SHOOTER – Out of a list of the top 250 NHL Fantasy Players, the individuals granted this icon are in the top 15th percentile for shots on goal this season.
PP SPECIALIST – Out of a list of the top 250 NHL Fantasy Players, the individuals granted this icon are in the top 15th percentile for PP points this season.
HITS – Out of a list of the top 250 NHL Fantasy Players, the individuals granted this icon are in the top 15th percentile for hits this season.
SHOT BLOCKER – Out of a list of the top 250 NHL Fantasy Players, the individuals granted this icon are in the top 15th percentile for hits this season.
INJURY POTENTIAL – Players who I suspect will deal with injury troubles in the coming year. Players chosen have had a history of being placed on LTIR. They have typically missed about 35 games total in the past two years.
DROPOFF POTENTIAL – I suspect players will experience a significant decrease in production from the prior year. This is most likely due to age, high shooting percentage, or a drop in usage from the year prior. Compared to the preceding year, production dips by no less than 15%.

Eeli Tolvanen had only one 30-point season before exploding last year for 41 points in 81 games. He was a 2017 first-round pick and is only 25 years old. He’s on a still-developing Kraken team. The opportunity is there for him. Was last year a fluke, or does he have even more to his game?

He’s a back-to-back 30-goal scorer on a very crappy San Jose Sharks team. It’s going to be a long season for him, but playing on less-than-good teams is something Tyler Toffoli should be used to. He will be given top-line and PP1 duties, but I can’t see him scoring 30 goals on this team, at least not in his first year.

He will enter his third season in the league after having solid rookie and sophomore seasons. He averaged 23 minutes of ice time per game last year, so his role was already quite large, and I don’t really foresee it getting much larger. However, the departure of Jakob Chychrun will open the door for Sanderson to see more PP time, so I’m expecting a career year for the young Jake Sanderson.

The now 20-year-old had 20 goals and 44 points in his rookie season last year, good enough to earn him a spot on the All-Rooke NHL Team. This is an impressive accomplishment for the third overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Now, in year 2, expect an increase in production. He averaged 15:49 in ice time last year, and expect this number to increase this year, as will his point-per-game offensive production.

OUTLOOK
The world has waited long enough for the 2020 first-round pick to arrive, and oh boy, did he ever in 2023-24, especially during the Playoffs, where he notched 14 points in 16 games played.
When speaking of Lafreniere, he never really went astray concerning his development. He was selected by an already offensively loaded NY Rangers team, so he never got top 6 minutes out the gate; he only did so last year and scored 28 goals and 57 points. He still has a way to go; he only had six power-play points last year, so he still hasn’t fully received the keys to New York’s offence yet. However, I see the passing down of the reigns taking another step forward this year. Lafreniere will score 30 goals this year and 67 points for a new career high.

He’s the most prolific scoring winger on this Pittsburgh team so he will be riding shotgun with Sidney Crosby and earning PP1 duties all year. He has a knack for getting injured, so it’s best to expect him not to play an entire 82-game season. Something like 70 games is much more realistic.

Washington will be Jakob Chychrun’s third team in three years, and bouncing around that much never bodes too well for a player. I don’t know where he will slot on the depth chart. Will he be able to surpass John Carlson on PP1? Frankly, it’s up in the air. Offensively, I’m predicting 0.5 points per game pace for the former 2016 first-round pick, and he should be able to put up 70 hits and 120 blocks in an entire season, so despite him being on a new team, he’s a good and safe choice for your fantasy team.

At this point in his career, we have probably seen the best of Tom Wilson offensively. However, he has a knack for missing games each season, whether due to injury or suspension, so I’m also forecasting about 10 or so missed games this season.
If he can stay healthy, he can put together a near 40-point season and deliver 200+ hits, so in drafts that value this category, there are only a few forward options out there that can provide 40 points and 200+ hits in a season.

Keep your expectations for Alex Tuch moderated. Last year’s 59-point season wasn’t a one-off but a normal performance for him. Miro Heiskanen is an all-time defender in the game today, a #1 defenseman in the NHL today, and a great fantasy option for your team. Still, my expectations for him this year differ from what you all expected. I’m concerned about his time on the power play due to the emergence of Thomas Harley. However, with that being said, I’m still expecting a 9-goal, 52-point campaign for Mr. Heiskanen, which is a no-brainer for any team looking for a great all-around defenseman.

OUTLOOK
It will be year 10 for Nick Schmaltz next year, and he will be 28 years old, but he will have a career year for the newly founded Utah Hockey Club. He’s been a top-line player for this team for quite some time, and Utah won’t continue Arizona’s trend of not being competitive; this Utah team is on the up and up, and Nick Schmaltz will be a big part of that. He does have some injury history, but I’m expecting a relatively healthy 75-game season from him. Let’s hope he can stay healthy because if he is, I have little doubt that he won’t be able to put up top-line offensive numbers.

Rasmus is an interesting player to predict. He seems to have lost PP1 duties to MacKenzie Weegar, but he still notched nine goals last year from the backend, and it’s not like his shooting % was overly inflated or his minutes decreased. It’s difficult to know where he will fall this year, but he’s a decent option for your fantasy team, and at 27 years of age, it would be wrong to expect another declining year from him. But you never know what can happen since he is on the rebuilding Calgary Flames team.

He has been one of Anaheim’s best-producing forwards since arriving in Anaheim during the 2022-23 season, and he posted a career-best 37 goals and 60 points in 82 games. While I don’t want to throw shade at Frank Vatrano, I wouldn’t expect an output like this again. The Ducks are a team developing, and Vatrano is 30 years old, so his future with Anaheim could be better. Expect some of the playing time he got last year to go more to Leo Carlsson or Mason McTavish. Despite this pessimistic outlook, I’m still expecting a 20-goal, 49-point output for Frank Vatrano, so he is still a source of valuableness for your fantasy team.

At 34 years old, it seems as though John Carlson is on the decline. The additions of Matt Roy and Jakob Chychrun (who could steal some of Carlson’s PP time) are not good news for Carlson from a fantasy standpoint. The good is that Carlson does have the ability to stay healthy, and while I don’t expect him to log 25 minutes of ice time this year, he’s still a lock for 22 or 23 minutes a night, so he will still be able to provide some depth value to your fantasy team for this upcoming year.

PLD had a trying year last year, and he historically struggles when arriving at a new team. Similar to Jakob Chychrun, this will be his third team in three seasons, so you can’t expect him to have a career year with all of this turnover. He posted 40 points in 82 games last year for the LA Kings, and this year, I expect him to have 53 points in 82 games played, so that will be a nice bounce-back for him.
I don’t think Dubois will supplant Dylan Strome as this team’s #1 centreman, but he should earn at least some PP1 time. Only time will tell which version of PLD shows up this year. Will it be the 63-point Pierre-Luc Dubois or the 40-point LA King?

There was a lot of negativity surrounding Dylan Strome in the early goings of his NHL career, but he has blossomed into a quality centreman for the Washington Capitals. He’s a big-bodied playmaking centreman who has put together back-to-back 60+ point campaigns, and I expect this trend to continue this upcoming season. The arrival of Pierre-Luc Dubois could be a concern for Strome, but he has done a terrific job of putting up quality points in this league for the past few years, so the arrival of PLD shouldn’t impact Dylan’s spot and role on this year’s Washington Capitals.

So, him putting up 45 points in a single season is impossible. However, Pionk is still a very fantasy-relevant defender. Noah Hanifin is a premier defenseman in the league today. He can quarterback a powerplay, and he can shut down opponents defensively. However, in terms of fantasy relevance, he’s not a #1 choice. While he could be this team’s #1 power play defenseman, it’s unclear whether he will get the role as Shea Theodore and Alex Pietrangelo will also be fighting for it, and his hits and block totals aren’t as high as you would expect for a defender who logs as many minutes as he does. A player who has indeed come out of nowhere, he exploded last year, scoring 24 goals and 44 points in 81 games played. It will be a few years until the young guns rise to shine, but right now, there aren’t a lot of better offensive options for the San Jose Sharks, so Fabian Zetterlund will be given a prominent role out the gate, and I foresee the 44-point season not being a fluke at all.

Alex Pietrangelo had a poor offensive season last year, registering 33 points in 64 games played, but don’t worry too much because he only played 64 games. On the other hand, Alex Pietrangelo is now 34 years old and has played a lot of minutes in the NHL, so his missing ten or so games for the upcoming year is to be expected.
I’m expecting more games played this year but only slightly, and his points per game to stay relatively the same. I’m expecting a 41-point, 70-game season. From a fantasy standpoint, he is a mid-round pick at best. He’s never been the offensive go-getter, and while he does have a high block count, his hits aren’t so much. A buyer beware for Alex Pietrangelo because he will miss 10 or so games this year.

I don’t know what’s going on with Jonathan Huberdeau. Is 50 points his ceiling now? He will enter the upcoming 2024-25 NHL season at 31 years old. Is he going to get worse? The Flames will not be contending for a Playoff spot this year, so offensively, Huberdeau should be given every opportunity to redeem himself. Under Rick Bowness, Ehlers’s ice time dipped a bit, and I’m hoping Scott Arniel can bring his ice time back up because he is an elite forward in this league today. With more ice time, it’s certainly possible for Ehlers to be a point-per-game player.

My expectations for Trevor Zegras could be better, and the reason isn’t because of injuries. He has fallen out of favour within the Ducks organization for whatever reason. As young guns Cutter Gautheir and Leo Carlsson take on a more prominent role this season, Zegras’s numbers will stay the same because his ice time and favouritism in the lineup won’t progress. However, he will still be used in a top 6 role, and I’m expecting no injury problems this year so that he will be healthy and produce. He just won’t be able to elevate his game to the next level.
Zegras’s value will primarily be reflected on the scoreboard. If he manages to secure a full year under his belt and is well-received by the coaching staff, his power play points are expected to rise, and he will have a great year. However, it’s important to note that his performance will be primarily influenced by the coaching staff’s decisions and strategies, so don’t expect his performance to take off this year.

He is a defenseman whose fantasy relevance is only on the hits-and-blocks side of things. He is capable of scoring mid-20 points, which isn’t half bad.
Adam Larsson is 31 years old, and his prime might be gone for a defenseman, but there’s no reason to think his role will diminish on this Seattle Kraken team, so don’t expect anything out of the ordinary this year.

The 26-year-old had a breakout campaign in 2023-24, but the real question is, can he repeat? My prediction is that this wasn’t a fluke, but I’m sure the Flames will flounder, so I doubt Yegor will be able to match his prior-year output. I expect a low 50-point season, but his upside is a mid-sixty-point season, so if you’re feeling frisky, maybe take a swing on Yegor this year.

What an up-and-down but overall successful career for Sean Monahan. At this point, we know what to expect from Sean Monahan. He’s no longer a 70-point player, and he has health issues. Yet, he’s going to a Columbus team that is weak down the middle, so he will be given every offensive opportunity to show that he still has it.
He was healthy all year last year, but I wouldn’t expect a repeat. If you’re expecting a quality and well-rounded top-two centreman, Sean Monahan won’t disappoint.

Many analysts openly state that Laine has been unable to repeat his early career success in the NHL. He opened his career with 36-goal and 44-goal seasons, and while that is true, his underlying numbers are good. His main problem is that he just hasn’t been able to stay healthy. Since leaving Winnipeg, he’s never played more than 56 games per season. No wonder he’s never been able to surpass 40 goals; he doesn’t play enough games.
I expect a bounce-back season for Laine now as a member of the Montreal Canadiens. I predict a 60-game, 21-goal, 48-point season; these are respectable numbers and what we should expect from Laine. Last season’s 9 points in 18 games was an outlier.

Mr. Iron Man is on the decline, and at 39 years old, it’s tough to think that he will be able to match or even succeed in last year’s outputs. OUTLOOK
The problem with Matthew Knies is it’s difficult for him to reach his full potential because he isn’t as good as Marner, Matthews, Nylander or Tavares, so the puck usually isn’t on his stick when he’s out there. However, he had 35 points in his rookie year and is only 21 years old, so his production will only increase. He’s a late-round pick offensive-wise, but he had 169 hits last year in only 13 minutes of time on ice, so there is reason to believe that his value in this category will only go up.

OUTLOOK
K’Andre Miller is only 24 years old, but he already has four full seasons under his belt. He’s got offensive upside, but with Adam Fox in the fold, he won’t be able to bear the fruit of his potential. However, he is still a well-rounded fantasy defender for your team. He’s good for 30 points, 100+ shots, and 200+ combined hits and blocks.

OUTLOOK
At 26 years old, he’s at the peak of his career. He’s been averaging top-line minutes these past few years, and he’s put together back-to-back 20-goal seasons averaging 50+ points, so his peak is established. He might surpass these totals, but you should expect less from Troy Terry. These are respectable numbers, and if you’re looking for someone who can be a safe bet to achieve these targets, Troy Terry is your guy.

OUTLOOK
Filip Hronek had a career year offensively last year, and he wasn’t even a member of the first power play unit. He notched 48 points in 81 games, and 11 of those came on the man advantage. What a surprising year he had, to say the least.
In terms of fantasy value this year, I can’t see him producing at the same rate. It’s hard for a defenseman to get 48 points and not be a member of PP1. Overall, he is a late-round fantasy option. He’s good for 100+ hits, 80+ blocks, and 39 points this year. So, he is a serviceable depth option for your fantasy team.

OUTLOOK
Rickard Rakell had a very disappointing year last year after such a promising year before. Essentially, all of his metrics were down last year. I’m expecting a bit of a bounce back this year, but not by much. He is 31 years old on a declining Pittsburgh Penguins team, so the opportunity for him to rebound is there, but he’s never been a prolific goal scorer, so his ceiling and expectations should be capped.

Matt Duchene revived his career in Dallas last year, but don’t expect a rebound. He is 33 years old now, and his 60-point seasons are done. He does stay healthy, which is good, so expect a 54-point season from him—nothing more.

Unfortunately, the Buffalo Sabres’ 2021 first-overall pick has a fantasy ceiling because of Rasmus Dahlin. Rasmus keeps Owen Power off of PP1 duties, so his offensive upside is limited. However, the moon is the ceiling for Owen Power, so it’s difficult to place a ceiling for him.
While his offence has a ceiling, expect the 6’6″ defender to take on added defensive responsibilities. I expect his hit-and-block counter to take a step up this season.
